Il y a 25 ans et quelques semaines sortait le premier album du groupe A Tribe Called Quest : People’s Instinctive Travels & The Paths of Rhythm. Afin de célébrer cet anniversaire, Chris Read a préparé la mixtape ci-contre pour les sites who sampled et wax poetic, avec des morceaux d’A Tribe Called Quest bien évidemment, mais aussi les compos originales samplées dans People’s Instinctive Travels & the Paths of Rhythm.

Ambassadeur du rap East Coast, A tribe Called Quest (Q-tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Phife Dawg et Jarobi White) sort avec People’s Instinctive Travels & The Paths of Rhythm un album fondateur qui changea le paysage musical d’alors et qui marque aujourd’hui encore de son empreinte le hip hop. Ce premier disque s’attira de bonnes critiques et proposa des samples extrêmement bien sentis, puisés dans ce qui se faisait de mieux en terme de musique afro américaine : Roy Ayers, Jimi Hendrix, Funkadelic, Cannonball Adderley, Lonnie Smith, Donald Byrd… Des artistes majeurs que nous adorons samplés par un groupe qui allait devenir incontournable : ça valait bien une playlist de circonstance!
